Lingit Latseen

See the Tlingit Elders Traditional Education Checklist here.

What are the most important knowledge and skills in Tlingit tradition that a person needs to know to be well educated in the tradition?

I have discussed Tribal Schooling in the past, and the list compiled here by Richard and Nora Dauenhauer is exactly what I’m talking about. It covers everything from language, literature, history, philosophy, survival, hunting, fishing, traditional technology and craftsmanship, art and even manners; all from a traditional Tlingit perspective. This is how our people lived, survived and thrived in Tlingit Aani. There’s no reason we can’t learn to do this again and thoughtfully add modern technology to our lives to create a balanced, traditional life.
