A New Independence

On the beginnings of America, started by indentured whites, black slaves and free Native Americans. And on the beginning and growth of the American Empire.

The film depicts American history as neither the standard “deification of our forefathers” of the patriot-conservative crowd nor the “the white man stole the Indian land and enslaved black people” stuff of the PC Left. Instead, A New Independence focuses on the tradition of Americans as rebels and outcasts resisting oppression: indentured servants, slaves, farmers, laborers, religious sects escaping persecution, anarchic Indian tribes, the fact that some of the American states were originally penal colonies, etc. The film also emphasizes the pioneer spirit, the communitarian side of American history as well as the libertarian side, the cultural and religious diversity of the early settlements, the racial/ethnic diversity, and so on.
